International Design Competition Launched for Busan's Hwamyeong Outdoor Pool Renovation

Busan Metropolitan City and Design Council Busan have announced an international design competition to renovate the Hwamyeong outdoor pool, located within Hwamyeong Ecological Park. The initiative aims to align with broader waterfront redevelopment plans and convert the facility, currently operational only in summer, into a year-round family-oriented ecological recreation space. Under the slogan "Establishment of a spatial service model for an open-air family recreation and leisure complex (pool) all year round," participants are invited to submit designs that honor the ecological, environmental, and cultural values of the site. All proposals must be submitted via the official competition website (https://hwamyeong-idc.kr/). The call was published on August 19, 2026.
