Established in October 2012 during the World Biennial Forum in Gwangju and Seoul, the IBA was initiated by Marieke van Hal, Yongwoo Lee, and Elke aus dem Moore. Its headquarters are located in Sharjah, UAE, under the leadership of Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi. Upcoming events are scheduled in cities like Göteborg and Istanbul.
