International Architecture Competition for Real Academia de España en Roma

An international architecture competition has been initiated by the Spanish government for the renovation and expansion of the Real Academia de España en Roma, which has been situated in San Pietro in Montorio since 1881. Proposals, to be submitted in Spanish, are required by February 25, 2022. The Ministerio de Transportes and the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores are organizing this competition, which focuses on functional requalification, restoration, and respectful expansion. The site has undergone changes since 1480, including a project by Miguel Blay in 1926. An independent jury will assess the submissions based on their suitability and feasibility. The budget is projected to exceed €6.2 million, with the winner receiving €650,628.82. Second and third prizes are €18,150 and €12,100, respectively. Site visits can be arranged until January 17, 2022.
