Interactive Web Doc Explores Ancient Tuscan Road

digital · 2026-05-04

Setteponti Walkabout, an interactive web documentary, explores the ancient Strada Setteponti, an Etruscan route through Valdarno connecting Florence to Arezzo. The project premiered at the Taormina Film Fest and the 59th Festival dei Popoli in Florence. It is a multimedia cinematic journey divided into three chapters, blending documentary, animation, sound design, and archival materials. Inspired by Bruce Chatwin's novel "The Songlines," it aims to traverse, understand, and narrate territories to reveal their constant evolution. The documentary tells a story of a corner of Valdarno that reflects many places in Italy, allowing viewers to recognize familiar narratives. The project was realized through an artist residency conceived and promoted by the cultural association MACMA, as part of Sguardi Factory Lab, a training and production platform parallel to the Sguardi sul Reale Festival. The residency produced a collective work developed over a year, supported by SIAE "Sillumina – Copia privata per i giovani, per la cultura" and MIBACT, involving four artists under 35: Gianfranco Bonadies (illustrator/animator), Gianpaolo Capobianco (sound designer), Michele Sammarco (filmmaker), and Valeria Tisato (assistant creative coder).
