Instituto José Resende Opens São Paulo Space with Cássio Loredano Exhibition

The Instituto José Resende (IJR) inaugurated its São Paulo office in Vila Nova Conceição on November 30, 2019, with a solo exhibition by illustrator and caricaturist Cássio Loredano. This marks the institute's second location after opening its headquarters in São José do Barreiro in May 2019. The exhibition, open until February 13, 2020, features a series of caricatures of writer Machado de Assis (1839-1908), representing Loredano's long-standing research on the author. The show traces the writer's life from youth to old age. Alongside Loredano's works, the opening displayed pieces by sculptor José Resende and other works from the collection of marchand Paulo Fernandes, who has managed Resende's work for decades. The collection includes works from Auguste Rodin to Miguel Rio Branco. The exhibition will later travel to the IJR's 1,200 m² headquarters in São José do Barreiro, which recently underwent reconfiguration and gained two new monumental sculptures by Resende. One sculpture is installed at km 260 of the Rodovia dos Tropeiros, signaling access to the town center, and another similar piece was added to the institute's sculpture garden. The institute aims to promote Resende's extensive work and foster dialogue with other artists.
