Institutions sever ties with David Adjaye after sexual misconduct allegations
Following an investigation by the Financial Times on 4 July detailing allegations of sexual assault and harassment from three women, multiple institutions have distanced themselves from architect David Adjaye. The Africa Institute in Sharjah, UAE, cancelled its 32,000m2 campus project by Adjaye Associates on 10 July. New York's Studio Museum in Harlem ended collaboration with his firm on a new building on 6 July, with chairman Raymond J. McGuire stating the allegations contradict the museum's principles. The deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts, placed a large-scale sculptural work by Adjaye on indefinite hold. Adjaye is no longer involved with the UK National Holocaust Memorial or the Multnomah County Library in Portland, Oregon. He resigned as architectural adviser to London mayor Sadiq Khan and as a trustee of the Serpentine Galleries. Adjaye denied the allegations but apologized for blurring professional boundaries.
