Instagram deletes Lushsux account over Hillary mural

digital · 2026-05-05

Instagram removed the account of Australian street artist Lushsux after he posted a mural of Hillary Clinton in a revealing stars-and-stripes monokini clutching a wad of cash. The image went viral among his 100,000+ followers. Lushsux noted that his previous murals of Donald Trump faced no censorship. The Maribyrnong Council in Melbourne deemed the mural offensive to women and requested its physical removal. Rather than see it destroyed, Lushsux painted a niqab over Clinton. The incident echoes the earlier removal of Ilma Gore's nude Trump portrait from Facebook in March 2016. Lushsux's account deletion follows the June 2016 shutdown of Dennis Cooper's blog by Google.
