Inside Renzo Piano Building Workshop documentary airs on Italian TV

A documentary titled "Inside Renzo Piano Building Workshop" will air on Italian television on January 18 as part of the Art Night program hosted by Neri Marcorè on Rai5. The film, directed by Claudia Adragna and Davide Fois and curated by Fulvio Irace, was produced by Francesca Molteni. It offers an in-depth look at the working methods of Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), the architecture firm founded by Renzo Piano in 1981 and now led by him and eleven partners. The documentary focuses on the studio's collaborative approach, described as a "bottega all'italiana" (Italian workshop), emphasizing team revisions, client meetings, and the use of scale models, including 1:1 reproductions. Featured projects include the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, CERN's Science Gateway in Geneva, the École Normale Supérieure in Paris-Saclay, the SNF Thessaloniki Children's Hospital in Thessaloniki, and the Marunouchi Tokio Marine in Tokyo. The film premiered at the Biografilm Festival in Bologna and the Italian Contemporary Film Festival in Toronto before its television debut. Molteni, who previously directed "Il Potere dell'Archivio" on RPBW, describes the studio as a place of "miracle of creation" from sketches to construction sites, highlighting Piano's role as a mentor and his ability to visualize problems and find solutions. The documentary runs under an hour and is accessible to non-specialists.
