Inside Anna Magnani's Rome apartment: exclusive photos

Exclusive photographs by Francesca Pompei reveal the Rome apartment of Luca Magnani, Anna Magnani's only son, decorated by the actress in her final years. Located at Via Margutta, the flat was once an artist's studio where Picasso prepared sets for 'Parade'. The images offer a glimpse into Magnani's private life and taste. Magnani, born 1908, died 1973 in Rome, was a cinema icon known for 'Roma città aperta', 'Bellissima', 'Mamma Roma', and 'La rosa tatuata', which won her the 1956 Oscar for Best Actress—the first non-English-language winner. She also earned two David di Donatello, five Nastri d'argento, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and more. Despite her fame, she felt abandoned by Italian cinema in the 1960s-70s, rejecting roles she deemed caricatures. She appeared in Fellini's 'Roma' (1972) as herself and made a TV exception for 'Tre donne' by Alfredo Giannetti.
