Inner Landscape: Paula Cortazar, Benjamin Degen, Alexandra Karakashian, Michele Mathison at Galleria Anna Marra

exhibition · 2026-05-04

At the entrance of the group show curated by Marina Dacci at Galleria Anna Marra in Rome, three large river stones immediately catch the eye. Carved not only by time—which Marguerite Yourcenar called a great sculptor—but also by the youngest artist, Paula Cortazar. She is joined by Benjamin Degen, Alexandra Karakashian, and Michele Mathison in Inner Landscape, an exhibition revolving around the metaphor of travel—physical, mental, natural, and social. Degen's works, Hard Try For Now (2018) and Over Time Louder (2018), are two precious canvases whose vivid chromaticism spreads through the space, creating an imaginary backdrop. Karakashian's pieces engage with social issues, while Mathison focuses on territory, the decaying relationship between nature and culture, and resistance to opulent aridity.
