Inhotim Launches Fourth Act Honoring Abdias Nascimento and Luana Vitra Installation
In November 2023, Instituto Inhotim celebrated the conclusion of its exhibition series 'Abdias Nascimento and the Museu de Arte Negra.' This program, which began in November 2020 in collaboration with Ipeafro, pays tribute to Abdias Nascimento (1914–2011), a prominent anti-racist activist, poet, and the founder of both Teatro Experimental do Negro and Museu de Arte Negra. The final act, titled 'O Quilombismo: Documentos de uma Militância Pan-Africanista,' delves into Nascimento's concept of 'quilombismo' and his life journey, including the establishment of TEN and MAN and his experiences in Africa (1974–77). Additionally, on November 11, Inhotim unveiled 'Giro' (2023) by Luana Vitra, which reflects on the landscapes of Minas Gerais and the 2019 Brumadinho dam disaster, addressing themes of local history and healing.
