Inhotim opens new works and temporary exhibitions on May 28, 2022, as part of its Specific Territory research axis for 2021-2022. Isaac Julien presents his emblematic work Looking for Langston at Galeria Praça, exploring the private world of poet Langston Hughes and the Harlem Renaissance. The Acervo em Movimento program launches with works by Brazilian artists Arjan Martins and Laura Belém installed in outdoor areas. Jaime Lauriano opens the Inhotim Biblioteca project, curating a new bibliography of Black authors. The Second Act of the Abdias Nascimento and Museu de Arte Negra project, co-curated by Inhotim and IPEAFRO, examines the Teatro Experimental do Negro at Galeria Mata. This movement, led by Abdias Nascimento from 1944 to 1968, aimed to create space for Black people in performing arts and originated the Museu de Arte Negra project during the 1st Congresso do Negro Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro in 1950. The exhibitions collectively debate art's function in local and global territories and institutional relationships with surroundings.
