Ingrid Maria Sinibaldi's Plywood Cutouts at Atelier Soardi

At Atelier Soardi in Nice, where Matisse once worked on 'La Danse' for the Barnes Foundation, a series of exhibitions for young artists is held in collaboration with Le Labo. Ingrid Maria Sinibaldi presents paintings built from plywood cutout forms. Beyond references to Hans Arp, her figurative world includes elements like candles and skulls evoking vanitas, alongside anthropomorphic stylizations blending expressionism and contemporary comics. In this space once used by the master of cut paper, Sinibaldi's cutouts, using pure colors, align more with Picasso's freedom. The centerpiece, 'La Maison penchée 2,' matches the dimensions of Picasso's 'Guernica' and includes explicit citations. This monumental, double-sided sculptural tableau stands independent of the wall, depicting a house in cavalier perspective with a tilted installation creating physical imbalance. It functions as a screen-frame for fantastical characters in a danse macabre. This second public version reconfigures figures through serial deconstruction, disrupting narrative linearity and potentially inaugurating a series of variations.
