Infinito Vão: 90 Years of Brazilian Architecture at Sesc 24 de Maio
The exhibition 'Infinito Vão: 90 anos de Arquitetura Brasileira' at Sesc 24 de Maio presents a singular approach to Brazilian architectural history, curated by Guilherme Wisnik and Fernando Serapião. It features projects from 96 architects spanning from the 1920s to the present, including Oscar Niemeyer, Vilanova Artigas, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Lucio Costa, and Lina Bo Bardi. The show, previously exhibited in 2019 at Casa da Arquitetura in Portugal, is structured around six thematic nuclei, each introduced by a Brazilian song that contextualizes the period. The title derives from lyrics by Gilberto Gil, and the exhibition integrates music, visual arts, literature, and video to create a hybrid narrative. At the opening, Paulo Mendes da Rocha stated that 'architecture is a way of saying who we are and who we will be.' The display begins with Gregori Warchavchik's first modernist house in São Paulo and progresses through key projects like the Ministry of Education and Health in Rio de Janeiro and the Pampulha complex in Belo Horizonte. It examines periods such as the creation of Brasília, the repression under dictatorship, and contemporary urban challenges, concluding with reflections on social inequality. The exhibition runs until 30 May 2026.
