Infinito Cabinet: Maria Cristina Crespo's Wunderkammer at Venice Biennale

As a collateral event of the Venice Biennale Arte, Maria Cristina Crespo presents 'Infinito Cabinet', a Wunderkammer of myths, objects, and narratives organized by Eclettica Cultura dell'Arte and curated by Giusy Caroppo. The exhibition at Riva San Biasio features three-dimensional paintings and collages made from found objects, stones, acrylic, and repurposed frames—from Zedda Piras boxes to antique frames. The works depict anthropomorphic figures embodying heroes from Western and non-Western narrative traditions, placed at the edge of their scenic space to interact with other stories. The installation references André Malraux's imaginary museum and Jorge Luis Borges's library, allowing each story to be read independently yet as part of a common archetypal discourse. The Wunderkammer aesthetic is evoked through accumulation, abundance, and the dichotomy between precious and everyday objects. The project connects all stories into an infinite narrative, echoing the Biennale's theme of intimate, choral expressions. The artist's manual, almost artisanal technique contrasts with stereotypical contemporary art, drawing on folk traditions. The exhibition runs during the Biennale.
