Ines Sacco Fico, founder of Museo Ettore Fico, dies at 91

other · 2026-05-05

Ines Sacco Fico, widow of painter Ettore Fico and founder of the Museo Ettore Fico in Turin, died at age 91 after a brief illness. Born in Gassino Torinese on February 10, 1926, she was the driving force behind the museum's creation in 2014, converting part of the former Incet factory in the Barriera di Milano district—a site where Primo Levi once worked as a chemist—into a 2,000-square-meter kunsthalle. The museum, of which she was President, preserves her husband's neo-naturalist works and contemporary art. She also established a Foundation and a Prize in her name, the latter in collaboration with Artissima, which annually acquires a significant work by an international young artist for the museum's permanent collection. Andrea Busto, Director of the Foundation and Museum, noted that the Prize is a fundamental part of the Foundation's mission to promote young artists nationally and internationally. Guido Curto, Director of Palazzo Madama, praised her as a determined woman who dedicated herself to keeping her husband's memory alive. The museum continues to produce exhibitions, catalogues, and commissioned works, while the Foundation handles cataloguing, institutional relations, and youth promotion.
