Inéditos 2026: Raquel Algaba and Álvaro Talavera Win La Casa Encendida Curatorial Prize

exhibition · 2026-05-19

La Casa Encendida in Madrid has announced the winners of its 23rd Inéditos call for young curators under 35 residing in Spain. The biennial program, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2028, selected Raquel Algaba and Álvaro Talavera, both born in 1992. Their exhibitions run from May 16 to July 26, 2026. Algaba's show, 'Y me convierto en un río, cuya lengua marrón no descansará,' in Sala C, explores non-anthropocentric worldviews through plants and technical systems. It features works by Danish artist Cecilia Fiona (painting, sculpture, performance inspired by microbiology and quantum physics), Leticia Martínez Pérez (textile installation blending kitsch and noble), Leonor Serrano Rivas (a dripping central sculpture mimicking the 'llanto de las tipas' phenomenon), and Lola Zoido (digital glitch pieces from her 'Exuvia' series). Talavera's 'Kumusta na kayo?' presents five Filipino artists and collectives—Leslie de Chavez, Kiri Dalena and Ben Brix, MM Yu, Czar Kristoff P., and Chia Amisola—addressing the Philippines' Spanish colonial past, community life, and identity formation. The jury comprised Violeta Janeiro, Direlia Lazo, and Pablo Martínez. La Casa Encendida director Pablo Berasategui announced special exhibitions for the 25th anniversary.
