Industrial warehouse becomes street art cathedral in Modena
An industrial warehouse in Modena has been transformed into a contemporary church through murals by 10 Italian street artists. The project, called 'Cattedrale Immaginata' (Imagined Cathedral), is promoted by the Associazione Culturale Rosso Tiepido in collaboration with MAGMA gallery of Bologna. It aims to capture contemporary urban abstraction, focusing on a globally appreciated movement. The initiative was conceived by Tiziano Del Vacchio, a Modena-based entrepreneur in the plumbing components sector and a contemporary art collector. In 2016, he made his warehouse available for young artists' exhibitions organized by his association. The idea for a street art cathedral arose from helping his son study Giotto's Scrovegni Chapel frescoes. Del Vacchio wondered who would be commissioned today for such a project. Starting January 2018, the Hangar Rosso Tiepido hosted interventions by Italian street artists, still in progress. Artists involved include Bartocci, Tellas, Ciredz, Moneyless, Stenlex, Aris, Awer, MP5, and upcoming Martina Merlini and Gola Hundun. A grand celebration is planned for mid-October.
