architecture-design · 2026-05-05

In 2021, Stacie Grissom, 37, and Sean Wilson, 36, bought the old Union Joint schoolhouse in Franklin, Indiana, for $175,000 without seeing it first. Constructed in 1914, the 9,000-square-foot building had been closed since the 1930s and had previously served as a turkey barn and apple storage before being converted into two apartments. The couple, who grew up in Franklin and recalled the school from their cross-country meets, were residing in New York City with their newborn when the pandemic prompted their move back. They transformed the building into a four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom single-family home.
