India Art Fair 2024 Showcases Record Exhibitors and Female Artists in Delhi
In early February, Delhi hosted the 16th India Art Fair, showcasing a record 120 exhibitors who displayed various art and design pieces. The fair's striking black-and-white facade was crafted by artist Ayesha Singh, inspired by her exploration of women's historical roles in Indian architecture. Representatives from prestigious international museums such as the Guggenheim, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Museum of Modern Art attended to evaluate works from India and South Asia. Many galleries reported robust sales during the event. Throughout the year, female artists received significant attention in exhibitions. Notably, Vadehra Art Gallery featured a solo show by Mumbai artist Shilpa Gupta at the Centre for Contemporary Art, focusing on censorship and state-citizen dynamics through installations like Untitled (Spoken Poem in a Bottle) (2018– ) and Listening Air (2019–22), with references to imprisoned poets. Later, Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke showcased a solo exhibition of Aban Raza's vibrant canvases addressing protest movements.
