festival-fair · 2026-05-04

Independent New York, established in 2009 by Elizabeth Dee, Darren Flook, Matthew Higgs, and Laura Mitterrand, is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary from March 7–10, 2019, at Spring Studios in Tribeca, Manhattan. This year's fair will showcase over 50 exhibitors from North America, Canada, and Asia, introducing 21 new galleries, including Ortuzar Projects (New York), Arcadia Missa (London), and Take Ninagawa (Tokyo). Over the past decade, Independent has curated a network of more than 240 galleries representing artists at various stages of their careers. Matthew Higgs remarked, "Independent remains, first of all, a platform for artists' ideas." Looking ahead, the Brussels edition will occur from November 8–11 at the Vanderborght Building, focusing on a more curatorial, performance-oriented model. Dee emphasized, "It's truly the year of innovation for Independent, and Brussels will become an incubator."
