Independent Brussels 2018 pivots to performance-focused model
Independent Brussels, now in its third edition, will take place from November 8 to 11, 2018, at the Vanderborght Building in Brussels. The fair is shifting from a traditional commercial model to a more curatorial, performance-oriented format, featuring 16 commissioned works curated by Vincent Honoré. It will host 60 galleries from across Europe, including Francesca Minini from Milan. The decision to move the fair to autumn, rather than spring when Art Brussels is held, reflects its growth and success. Founder Elizabeth Dee stated the fair aims to give curatorial agenda equal weight to market concerns, describing this as a year of innovation and a testbed for new ideas. The focus on live art and audience participation is intended to balance static art fair displays with immersive experiences.
