Independent Art Fair Launches in Former Dia Building with Artist Projects and Gallery Dialogues
The Independent art fair has inaugurated a complimentary exhibition at the previous Dia Art Foundation site located on West 22nd Street, curated by gallerists Elizabeth Dee and Darren Flook. This event showcased artist projects, public programs, and galleries devoid of conventional booth walls. Among the highlights was Claire Fontaine's neon installation proclaiming "ABANDON HOPE ALL YE WHO ENTER." The opening night featured a 12-foot inflatable rat accompanied by recorded aphorisms. Moss partnered with Westreich-Wagner to produce 12 "dialogues" between various objects. Notable exhibits included Murray Moss alongside Michal Fronek and Jan Nemecek's "Illuminated Crucifix" (2010), as well as Thomas Struth's "Stanze di Raffaelo II, Rome" (1992). Eve Sussman displayed a replica of Yuri Gagarin's office, and Artists Space showcased Duncan Campbell's documentary "Make It New John."
