Inaugural Fundación Casa Wabi ArtReview Residency Award Winners Announced for 2017

The inaugural Fundación Casa Wabi ArtReview Residency Award has been awarded to Nasser Alzayani, Dexter Dalwood, and Marita Fraser. This open-call prize provides artists with a residency lasting one to three months at Fundación Casa Wabi in Oaxaca, Mexico, during either spring or autumn 2017. Proposals must engage with the local Puerto Escondido community. Alzayani, who hails from Bahrain and the USA, intends to create installations that respond to the site by collaborating with locals. Dalwood, a painter from the UK, plans to engage youth in exploring Oaxaca's history through a large mural-inspired work. Austrian artist Fraser will lead workshops using local materials for fabric dyeing, furthering her exploration of textile disruptions in contemporary art. The jury, including Mark Rappolt, Christian Viveros-Fauné, and Alberto Ríos de la Rosa, assessed submissions based on artistic quality and community relevance. Founded in 2014 by Bosco Sodi and directed by Carla Sodi, Fundación Casa Wabi fosters artistic exchange and features a multipurpose space, six studio-dorms, and a 50-acre sculpture garden. The award aims to enhance dialogue between artists from various backgrounds.
