Inaugural 1:54 Fair Showcases Contemporary African Art in London
The first-ever 1:54 art fair, dedicated to the 54 countries of Africa, features more than 70 artists from 15 different galleries. Among the highlighted artists is Meschac Gaba, who recently had his Museum of Contemporary African Art purchased by Tate. Other notable names include Sokari Douglas Camp, Sammy Baloji, and Edson Chagas, who won the Golden Lion at the 2013 Venice Biennale. Founded by Touria El Glaoui and architect David Adjaye, the fair also includes a lineup of lectures with speakers like Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Otobong Nkanga, and Olafur Eliasson.
