In the shade of the sun: Palestinian Artists at The Mosaic Rooms
The Mosaic Rooms in London present 'In the shade of the sun', a group show curated with Bilna'es, featuring four contemporary Palestinian artists: Mona Benyamin, Xaytun Ennasr, Dina Mimi, and Makimakkuk. The exhibition runs until 14 January 2024. Ennasr's installation 'Revolution is a forest that the colonist can’t burn' includes a tree, indigo fabric, bonsais, ceramics, drawings, and a video game co-designed with Osama Ennasr. Mimi's 'The melancholy of this useless afternoon' comprises two videos on birdsong competitions and smugglers, plus a framed cotton vest. Benyamin's film 'Tomorrow, again' stars her parents in satirical news scenes. Makimakkuk's sound work 'What remains in the museum' was scheduled for a single performance on 4 October 2023, but the artist was denied a UK visa. The Mosaic Rooms' 2023 programme interrogates active solidarity and reconstructing creative support networks.
