"In Other Worlds: Acts of Translation at Focal Point Gallery explores artistic interpretations across boundaries"

exhibition · 2026-04-19

From 25 June to 13 September 2025, the Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea will host the exhibition In Other Worlds: Acts of Translation. This showcase, created in collaboration with the Roberts Institute of Art, includes over 20 pieces from the David and Indrė Roberts Collection, alongside new works by artists such as Horst Ademeit, Michael Armitage, Frank Auerbach, Louise Bourgeois, and Ai Weiwei. Additionally, Haroon Mirza will present a fresh audio piece and live performance titled Adam, Eve, Others and a UFO for Choral Octet (2025). The exhibition delves into how stories evolve through retelling, addressing themes like memory, trauma, identity, and political resistance, while questioning our ability to communicate meaning amidst cultural conflicts and misinformation.
