IMS São Paulo Presents Two Major Photography Exhibitions on Women's Photobooks and Afro-Brazilian Archive

The Instituto Moreira Salles in São Paulo launches two significant photography exhibitions in March 2024. Opening March 17, the collective exhibition 'O que elas viram: fotolivros históricos de mulheres, 1843-1999' presents a history of the photobook through women who shaped visual culture across two centuries. This exhibition, created in collaboration with the organization 10x10 Photobooks, will be displayed at the IMS Paulista's Photography Library until August 2. A second exhibition, 'Zumví Arquivo Afro Fotográfico' by Lázaro Roberto, opens March 26 and runs through May 23. This presentation features approximately 400 images from an archive established in Salvador during the 1990s, which now contains roughly 50,000 photographs and documents. Both exhibitions are hosted at the IMS São Paulo location at Avenida Paulista, 2424. The women's photobook exhibition specifically examines contributions from 1843 to 1999, highlighting female perspectives in photographic publishing. Lázaro Roberto's exhibition focuses on Afro-Brazilian photographic heritage from Salvador. The IMS continues its role as a key institution for photographic archives and exhibitions in Brazil.
