Impressionist Anthology in Rome Features Unseen Monet Work

Marking 150 years since the first Impressionist exhibition on April 15, 1874, the Museo Storico della Fanteria in Rome presents 'Impressionisti – L'alba della modernità', an anthology running until an unspecified date. The show features over 160 works from Italian and French private collections by about 66 artists including Degas, Manet, Renoir, and De Nittis. A highlight is Monet's previously unseen 'Les Pêcheurs de Poissy', identified as a preparatory study for the painting in the Belvedere Museum Vienna. The exhibition is organized by Navigare under the direction of Vittorio Sgarbi, with a scientific committee comprising Gilles Chazal, Vincenzo Sanfo, and Maithé Vallès-Bled. It spans three sections from Ingres to Picasso's 1968 etching, emphasizing anti-academicism, en plein air painting, and lesser-known graphic works. The study of 'Les Pêcheurs de Poissy' was mentioned in Luigina Rossi Bertolatto's 1966 Monet catalogue as part of Alex Reid's collection, later passing through Galerie Vaudoyer to its current owner.
