Imola celebrates centenary of artist Germano Sartelli with major exhibition
Imola Musei presents 'Germano Sartelli. L'incanto della materia' at Museo di San Domenico for the centenary of the artist's birth. Curated by Claudio Spadoni, the show features about 70 works spanning Sartelli's career, from late-1950s collages to large corten sculptures and paper works. Sartelli, described by Andrea Emiliani and Maurizio Calvesi as a 'case apart,' worked in isolation in Codrignano, using unusual materials like leaves, cigarette butts, straw, and wire. He won the Ministry of Education's sculpture prize in 1962 and was invited to the 32nd Venice Biennale in 1964. The exhibition highlights his pioneering art therapy project at Imola's Lolli Psychiatric Hospital in the 1950s. His studio in Codrignano is now a 'Casa degli illustri' recognized by Emilia-Romagna region.
