Immersive Sistine Chapel Exhibition Opens in Warsaw
An immersive traveling exhibition, "The Sistine Chapel. Heritage," opened in Warsaw, Poland on November 18, offering visitors a digital recreation of Michelangelo's frescoes. The exhibition, held in a 2,000-square-meter domed pavilion on the Vistula River, uses Digital Art 360 technology, 39 Panasonic projectors, and high-resolution LED screens to display the chapel's art in near-original size. Organized under the patronage of the Vatican Museums, the show is produced by Italian publisher Scripta Maneant and Polish firm Dom Emisyjny Manuscriptum. It features three zones: replicas of Michelangelo's sculptures (including a life-size Pietà and a smaller David), a 19-meter film introducing the frescoes' history and subjects, and a dynamic spatial projection that immerses visitors in close-up and perspective views of the paintings. The exhibition includes 90 minutes of multilingual content, compared to the 15-minute visit allowed in the actual chapel. Organizers claim it will be the largest cultural event in Poland this century. The show will later travel to Krakow and Gdansk. The high-quality photographs used in the exhibition were taken by Italian photographers and published in a volume by Scripta Maneant.
