Immersive Installation Revives 16th-Century Flemish Tapestry in Pistoia
A large immersive installation at the Museo dell'Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi in Pistoia, Tuscany, reinterprets the city's most important tapestry: the 16th-century Flemish millefiori 'Adoration' tapestry, measuring 267 x 790 cm and made of silk and wool. The installation, titled 'Il giardino incantato. Viaggio interattivo nell'arazzo millefiori,' runs from October 28, 2023, to February 29, 2024. It coincides with the tapestry's loan to the Italo Calvino exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome. The project was commissioned by Fondazione Pistoia Musei and Fondazione Caript, curated by Annamaria Iacuzzi, Cristina Taddei, and Gaia Ravalli under the supervision of Monica Preti, director of Pistoia Musei, and realized with the artistic collective camerAnebbia. An interactive projection allows visitors to explore the tapestry's history, fabrication, flora, and fauna. After the tapestry returns, the project will be shared with institutions and schools to promote knowledge of the work and the museum.
