IMMA Launches Three-Year Exhibition Featuring Over 100 Artists

exhibition · 2026-04-23

On 26 February 2025, Patrick O'Donovan T.D., the Minister for Arts, Culture, Communications, Media and Sport, inaugurated 'Art as Agency', a significant new exhibition at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) in Dublin. This showcase features over 100 artists from the 1960s to today, highlighting numerous recent acquisitions. Spanning three years, it represents a transition from rapid exhibition changes to a sustainable long-term model, aimed at minimizing environmental impact and enhancing public engagement. Since 2020, IMMA's collection has expanded to over 4,500 artworks, with support from the Department of Arts. Christina Kennedy, Head of Collections, remarked that the exhibition commemorates 30 years of the National Collection, including works like Siobhán Hapaska's 'the recent incarnation of two advanced souls' (2012), acquired in 2023.
