Imagen Regional Exhibition Probes Colombian Pacific Conflicts

exhibition · 2026-04-24

Curated by Yolanda Chois, the exhibition 'Imagen regional - ¿Cuál Pacífico? Del terra nullius al territorio' at Centro Cultural del Banco de la República in Cali, Colombia, from March 4 to June 9, 2021, brings together works by thirteen artists examining sovereignty, representation, and structural racism in the Colombian Pacific region. The show addresses dystopian vestiges of urban dispossession, land grabbing, active civil resistance against disappearance, racism, and patriarchal violence, as well as a human strike against soaring food costs, limited education access, and daily survival struggles. Chois and several artists engaged in dialogue-laboratories with artists from Buenaventura and Quibdó to broaden discussion on the so-called 'regional image' that reinforces colonial imaginaries. Featured artists include Eblin Grueso, Pablo Daza, Angie Paola Montenegro, Jean Lucumí, Jhona Jhon Campo, Luis Tobón, Carmenza Banguera, Ana María Ortiz Hernández, and Diego Guevara.
