Im Youngzoo Wins Frieze Seoul Artist Award with Video Installation 'Calming Signal'
Im Youngzoo, an artist from Busan born in 1982, has received the Frieze Seoul Artist Award for 2025. Her upcoming project, 'Calming Signal' (2023/25), features a three-channel video installation in a grid setup, which will be displayed at Frieze Seoul from September 3 to 6 at COEX. This piece explores 'calming signals' in dogs that help mitigate aggression, drawing connections to human behaviors during times of shared anxiety, fitting with the fair’s 'Future Commons' theme. Im’s work spans video, installation, performance, and virtual reality, blending personal narratives with shared memories. The award, now in its third year, was judged by a panel including Yeon Shim Chung and others, supporting emerging artists in Korea.
