Im Youngzoo's 'The Late' Explores Technology as Spiritual Coping

The exhibition 'The Late 故' by Seoul artist Im Youngzoo is currently on display at Space ZeroOne in New York until 25 July. This showcase delves into themes of technology, human advancement, and existential doubt. At its core is a seven-channel video installation, also titled 'The Late 故' (2025–26), which features diverse scenes such as a figure clad in a Ghillie suit, a woman undergoing acupuncture, and a self-driving vehicle, all paired with scrolling text. Additionally, a VR headset displays a foil-covered body in 'The Late VR' (2025–26), and attendees can view 'One Hundred Meeting Point' (2025–26). A second gallery presents a comprehensive 1,254-page artist book that examines South Korea's technological aspirations, including President Lee Myung-bak's '747 Plan' and a one trillion won investment, suggesting that technology stems from a spiritual desire to cope with existential uncertainty.
