Im Halbschatten: Fashion Project Reimagines Aryanized Jewish Dress

A new fashion initiative named 'Im Halbschatten: Echoes of a Forgotten Dress' addresses the legacy of the Jewish fashion sector in Germany and its coerced Aryanization during the National Socialist era. Created by Moritz and Daria—who is of Jewish heritage—the project explores elements that remain obscured or neglected yet are transmitted through generations. Utilizing an original dress that reflects political shifts through its design, fabric, and construction, they deconstructed it to fashion new pieces. The collection includes thick wool layers that hide delicate silk, revealing intricate embroidery with movement. Daria's trousers, photographed by Ludwig, feature embroidered pockets that nod to domestic textile work, contrasting with rigid military designs. All trousers boast extra-deep crotches for comfort and androgyny. Made from deadstock materials, leftovers, and vintage finds, the garments merge historical significance with modern practicality. Photographer Ida Weber captured the accompanying visuals on a Sunday afternoon at Humboldthain in Berlin, employing two analogue formats to depict models in dynamic poses, intertwining the past with the present.
