illycaffé Launches Artist-Designed Coffee Can by Gillo Dorfles

other · 2026-05-05

illycaffé has broadened its Art Collection, introducing a fresh line of coffee cans designed by artists, in addition to its renowned espresso cup. The inaugural can features artwork by Gillo Dorfles, a centenarian artist and critic who previously created an illy cup in 2015. His design incorporates vibrant geometric patterns, drawing inspiration from his egg tempera pieces of the 1930s, which adhere to 15th-century artistic methods. This can is pressurized to maintain the coffee's aroma and is crafted for recyclability. Notable previous designers include Tobias Rehberger, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and Sebastião Salgado. Since its launch in 1992 by Francesco Illy, the cup series has showcased over 100 artists, including Alanis Morissette, who contributed an eco-friendly cup in April 2016.
