Illycaffè hosts Ulrike Müller and chef Sang Hoon Degeimbre at Venice Biennale

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

Illycaffè organized a creative dinner event at the Venice Biennale, pairing artist Ulrike Müller with two-Michelin-star chef Sang Hoon Degeimbre. The event was part of the 'C'è arte in tutto ciò che facciamo' series, celebrating Illy's 10-year partnership with the Biennale Arte, in collaboration with the Michelin Guide. Müller, selected by Biennale director Ralph Rugoff for the 58th International Art Exhibition, creates abstract works using enamel painting, prints, and rugs, influenced by geometric abstraction and feminist and queer possibilities. Degeimbre, chef at Air du Temps in Noville-sur-Mehaigne, Belgium, employs a 'food pairing' approach based on aromatic molecule analysis, using ingredients sourced within 15 km. The dinner menu included dishes like '15 shades of cabbage' and a dessert by pastry chef Julie Malcorps. The immersive setting featured a gridded floor and three colored tables inspired by Müller's work, echoing the 1960s environmental art concept. Illy CEO Massimiliano Pogliani and artistic director Carlo Bach attended. The event also supported the Archivio Storico delle Arti Contemporanee (ASAC), which preserves the Biennale's documentary heritage. Müller's Illy Art Collection cup design was used for coffee service.
