Illy Coffee Award Commissions Artist Posters for Nine Finalist Countries

award · 2026-04-26

For the ninth year, the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award has selected nine finalist countries—Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Brazil, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, and Rwanda—that excel in quality and sustainability. To celebrate, Illy commissioned artists from around the world to create graphic posters capturing each nation's coffee heritage and flavor profiles. New York illustrator Lauren Martin depicted Costa Rica with a still life inspired by its flora and fauna. Berlin-based Natascha Baumgärtner represented Ethiopia's lush landscape. American Haley Tippmann illustrated a reflective moment overlooking Nicaragua's coast with bold colors. English artist Alice Brisland honored Rwanda with soft, relaxing tones. Cosmo Danchin-Hamard created a surreal scene for India. Brazilian Camila Rosa featured a woman holding a coffee cup to portray her country's coffee culture. Argentine Sebastian Ariel Curi, Nina Dzyvulska, and Marcello Velho explored the people and rituals of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. The posters have been available on the artists' Instagram and Illycaffè's social profiles since November 8, 2024. The award is named after Ernesto Illy, son of Illy founder Francesco Illy, who started the company in Trieste in 1933.
