Illustrated Workers Exhibition at Sesc Santo Amaro Explores 20th Century Brazilian Labor
Curated by Chico Homem de Melo, the exhibition 'Trabalhadores Ilustrados' presents a diverse panorama of 20th-century Brazilian labor through approximately 300 illustrations. Originally conceived with literature as its primary axis, the selection expanded to include works from journalism, music production, and historical, geographical, and sociological essays. This shift occurred due to the underrepresentation of urban and industrial work in literary illustration. The curator organized the show into 22 panels, each featuring three or four illustrations that revolve around a common theme but employ distinct visual languages. The exhibition is on view at Sesc Santo Amaro until July 25, with free admission from Tuesday to Friday, 3 PM to 9 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, requiring prior online booking. Mandatory health protocols include mask-wearing throughout the visit and temperature checks at the entrance.
