Illustrated book chronicles TV series from Magnum P.I. to today

A new illustrated book titled "La storia delle serie TV: da Magnum P.I all'altro ieri" (The History of TV Series: From Magnum P.I. to the Day Before Yesterday) traces the evolution of television series from the 1980s to the present. Written by Vincenzo Recupero with illustrations by Fabio Franchi, the 400-page volume will be released on September 17, 2020, by NPE. The book covers iconic shows such as The A-Team, MacGyver, Twin Peaks, Beverly Hills 90210, The X-Files, Breaking Bad, Stranger Things, and the Italian series Gomorra. Recupero and Franchi discuss their approach in an interview: they aimed to avoid a Wikipedia-style description, instead including curiosities and critical insights. Franchi's illustrations reinterpret cult scenes with a clean line style and occasional gray tones. Recupero identifies Twin Peaks, Lost, and Breaking Bad as key influences on TV language, while Franchi cites The X-Files, Scrubs, and Game of Thrones. The book also addresses current trends, with Recupero noting a shift toward miniseries and shorter seasons (8-10 episodes) due to oversaturation.
