Il Ponte auction in Milan: Fontana leads sales with €640,000
Il Ponte Casa d'Aste's two-day modern and contemporary art auction in Milan, held on November 26-27, 2024, achieved a total of over €4.9 million. The auction featured 134 lots focusing on Futurist avant-garde and contemporary works, including international artists. The top lot was Lucio Fontana's 'Concetto Spaziale, Attese' (1966), which sold for €640,000 (including fees), exceeding its low estimate of €300,000. Agostino Bonalumi's 'Blu' (2000) achieved €108,800, more than double its low estimate. Salvo's 'Una sera' (1995) sold for €80,000 (four times low estimate), and Sergio Lombardo's 1963 Kennedy silhouette reached €96,000. Other notable results included Adolfo Wildt's marble relief 'Mater Purissima o Maria' (1928) at €107,520, and works by Depero, Fillia, Ceroli, Gilardi, Schifano, Adami, and Tancredi. The auction had an 88% sell-through rate by lot. However, some high-estimate works remained unsold, including Giacomo Balla's 'Villa Borghese dal balcone' (1907) and Serge Poliakoff's 'Composition V au cercle' (1955), reflecting a cautious market. Il Ponte was recently acquired by French firm Millon & Associés.
