Il Colorificio: curatorial collective in a former paint shop in Milan
Il Colorificio is a curatorial collective and project space founded in 2016 by Michele Bertolino, Bernardo Follini, and Giulia Gregnanin, later joined by project manager Sebastiano Pala. Located in a former paint shop in Milan's Giambellino suburb, the space focuses on experimental exchange of artistic and curatorial theories and practices. It has hosted solo shows by artists including IOCOSE, Deniz Eroglu, Vasilis Papageorgiou (curated by K-Gold Temporary Gallery), Marco Giordano, Michele Rizzo, Daria Blum (curated by STIMULI), and Tamara MacArthur. In January 2018, Il Colorificio was invited to an off-site project at Glasgow's Modern Institute by the collective TYVM – Thank You Very Much, creating a Temporary Office for Curatorial Consulting that critiqued unilateral curatorial visions. For each exhibition, the collective produces small publications exploring the artist's practice. At ArtVerona 2018, within the i9 section for independent spaces, Il Colorificio presented Marco Giordano's performance "I'm Nobody! How are you?", inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem. A car traversed the city daily during the fair, broadcasting a poem via a rooftop megaphone and distributing graphic works. The poem was read by Priestess, a young Italian rapper. The performance aimed to reclaim public space and counter propaganda by exposing fragility, referencing Paul B. Preciado's idea that revolution requires recognizing vulnerability.
