Ikonstudio launches SOM and Louis Kahn furniture collections

architecture-design · 2026-05-11

Canadian design firm Ikonstudio has released its first furniture collections, featuring historic designs by architecture firms SOM and Louis Kahn. Founded by David Feldberg, who also owns Teknion, Ikonstudio aims to revive underutilized concepts from iconic architectural projects. The SOM Collection includes the SOM79 Chair, originally designed for Halston's atelier, and the SOM79 Lounge, created for IBM's World Headquarters. The Louis Kahn Collection, developed with the Kahn foundation and Form Portfolio, comprises furniture and textiles from Kahn's 1953 Radbill Oil Company building and ML Weiss House, marking the first time Kahn's design pieces have been produced for the public. The collections launch alongside NYCxDesign and Chicago Design Week, with installations at Afternoon Light and Teknion's Chicago showroom. Ikonstudio collaborated with Philadelphia design group Rarify, which previously exhibited SOM archival furniture. The initiative reflects a growing trend of reissuing historic architectural furniture, similar to Steelcase's 2024 Frank Lloyd Wright collection.
