Ikea Sydney launches take-back service for pre-owned furniture

Ikea's Australian branch in Sydney has announced a new take-back and exchange service to give second life to used furniture and accessories. Customers fill out an online form with photos and descriptions of items they wish to return, and Ikea quotes their value. Eligible products can be brought back to select stores. The service aims to reduce waste and create a sustainable vintage-Ikea line. Ikea will sell the items on consignment, offering previous owners vouchers to spend in-store. This initiative aligns with Ikea's 'People & Planet Positive' program, which noted that spending on sustainable home solutions tripled between 2013 and 2016. The company has eliminated plastic bags, reduced packaging, and offers zero-emission products and plant-based food. Ikea states: 'We want to inspire as many people as possible to live more sustainably and enable them to do so easily and affordably.' The Sydney location was chosen as a prime opportunity for design collectors.
