Ikea's Nytillverkad collection revives vintage designs from the 1960s-80s

architecture-design · 2026-04-26

Ikea's Nytillverkad collection, translating to 'newly manufactured' in Swedish, revives classic furniture pieces from the 1960s to the 1980s, designed by Scandinavian talents such as Niels Gammelgaard and Sven Fristed. Introduced 18 months ago, this collection refreshes the original designs with contemporary colors and materials. Among the significant reissues are the Lövbacken table (formerly known as Lövet) and the Vårkumla sofa bed (previously Tajt), highlighted in the 1973 catalog. The sixth wave, set for February 2025, will feature metal-legged chairs, Guttane side tables (previously Novette), glass vases, and the Byakorre shelving unit (originally Guide), which faced a recall for stability concerns. Additionally, Gammelgaard's Järpen chair is now called Skålboda, constructed from steel wire sourced from a shopping cart factory.
