IKEA PS 2026: A Democratic Design Collection in Motion

architecture-design · 2026-05-13

IKEA will launch its PS 2026 collection globally on May 14, 2026, continuing the democratic design ethos first introduced at the 1995 Salone del Mobile in Milan. The collection, led by creative leader Maria O'Brien, features 12 designers and emphasizes movement, with pieces that fold, inflate, rock, climb, and click. Key pieces include Lex Pott's folding lamp and round cart, Mikael Axelsson's inflatable armchair and climbing stool, Marta Krupińska's rocking bench and rattan footstool, Friso Wiersma's sinuous cabinet and wooden shelving, Ola Wihlborg's six pieces including tables and a sofa-bed, Ellen Hallström's folding chair and snap coat rack, Matilda Lindstam Nilsson's armchair that transforms into a bed, Lukas Bazle's rice paper lamp, David Wahl's click table, Maria Vinka's listening vases, Henrik Preutz's multi-directional chair, and Michelle Armas's blooming ink textiles. The collection was previewed at Milan Design Week in April 2025 with three pieces. IKEA's design philosophy, rooted in the five principles of form, function, quality, sustainability, and low price, was developed in Älmhult, Sweden, where the company's test labs and archives are located. Designer Friso Wiersma noted that the best part of working at IKEA is creating affordable items that anyone can own.
