institutional · 2026-05-05

On November 15, the MAXXI museum in Rome will host the international meeting "Culture and Development: an Italo-Latin American Perspective," organized by the IILA (International Italo-Latin American Organization) for its 50th anniversary. María Rosa Jijón, artist and IILA Cultural Secretary, outlined the event's goals: updating perspectives on Latin American cultural production, discussing culture's social and economic impact, and fostering dialogue between Italy and Latin America. The meeting will feature speakers from diverse fields, including Susana Baca (singer and former Minister of Culture of Peru), Ticio Escobar (art critic and former Minister of Culture of Paraguay), Pituka Ortega-Heilbron (director of the Panama International Film Festival), and Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. Topics include cultural diversity, ancestral and Afro-American inclusion, public policies for vulnerable groups, and case studies like the Moravia Cultural Center in Medellín and the book "Agítese Antes de Usar" by MALBA and Fundación Teorética. The event aims to create new collaborative projects and investment opportunities between Italy and Latin America, aligning with UNESCO's 2001 Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and 2005 Convention, as well as UN Sustainable Development Goals.
