Igort's Directorial Debut '5 Is the Perfect Number' Premieres at Venice 76

Italian comic artist and writer Igor Tuveri, known as Igort, makes his directorial debut with the film adaptation of his graphic novel '5 Is the Perfect Number' at the 76th Venice Film Festival. The film stars Toni Servillo as Peppino Lo Cicero, a former Camorra hitman who returns from retirement to avenge his son's death. Igort spent 13 years and 10 drafts adapting the 2002 cult graphic novel, maintaining its distinctive black-and-blue bichromy and the nocturnal, rainy 1970s Naples setting. The director emphasized 'depth and rhythm' as key elements across all art forms. The film is divided into five chapters with sarcastic titles, blending noir with humor and emotion. Servillo's performance, alongside Carlo Buccirosso and Valeria Golino, is noted for its vocal work and portrayal of a nostalgic gangster. Cinematographer Nicolai Brüel, who worked with Matteo Garrone on 'Dogman', contributed to the film's meticulous visual detail. Igort, who previously worked on screenplays for 'Accabadora' and 'Last Summer', described his emotional response on set, stating he cried frequently due to the intensity of the material. The film premiered in August 2019 at the Venice Film Festival.
